On to the verse for this week:
But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down as Jesus' feet, saying, "Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" Luke 5:8
What I love about this verse is the stark contrast between what our modern, American version of Christianity thinks about an authentic encounter with the Living God and the reaction of Peter.
As Jesus demonstrates His diety to Peter, instead of Peter jumping up and down and celebrating, he falls at the feet of holiness because he has seen the depravity of his own heart for the first time in the light of perfection. This is what I think our initial reaction should be to an encounter with Purity, not the warm-fuzzy-feel-good that most people think about. It is after, when Jesus has lifted us from the ground and restored us by His mercy, that we begin to experience that overwhelming desire to sing to His name and proclaim that He is exalted.
