A tale of two boys

On August 11th, we started a new phase of life in our family. Andrew and Austin are attending our neighborhood public school together. They ride the bus, which they think is the coolest thing they have ever done. Mommy and Aiden like it too because they don't have to wake Aiden from his afternoon nap to go pick them up from school.

We continue to laugh at how different these boys are from one another. This was Andrew's first time to attend the same school two years in a row. He already knows the layout, most of the teachers, cafeteria, etc. Still, he was so nervous the first day. He wanted us to stay with him to make sure he knew where to go when the bell rang and continued to be anxious for several days.

Austin on the other hand, has always gone to school (mothers day out and kinder) in familiar places with his best buddies from church or soccer in his class. This was his first time in the elementary school building and we were out of town on the "meet the teacher" day, so he hadn't even met her. He didn't have any friends in his class that we knew already. While we were unpacking his school supplies in his new classroom that first morning, a little boy went up to the teacher crying saying that he missed his mommy. Thinking that might have upset Austin, I leaned over to look at him and say something encouraging. At the same time Austin looked up at me and said, "Mommy, it looks like it's time for you to go." : )
