Because it has been so hard to find English speakers in our city, our family has focused on spiritual battle. Tyra and I, sometimes with the kids, sometimes without, have criss-crossed our city, praying for the people.
The other day I took Andrew and we walked along the old city wall, asking God to remove the walls that separate this people from Him. It was an incredibly significant time to me, to be able to do spiritual battle in this place alongside of Andrew.
Our walk and prayers led to much conversation about the people here. We talked about the differences in what we believe, that those who follow Islam believe that their good works must outweigh their bad in order to even have a chance at eternity with God. Even then, Allah could choose not to grant this. Whereas those of us who follow Jesus believe that there is no hope of trying to do enough good works to outweigh our bad. Our only hope is that Jesus is who He claimed to be (God) so that His sacrifice on a cross is indeed sufficient to cover the bad things for all those who believe in Him.
It was so interesting to watch a 6 year old try to grasp the metaphorical language I was using in my prayers as I explained to him what tearing down strongholds and removing the spiritual blindness of the people meant. At one point, as we were looking at the city wall, he asked me if we were gong to be able to see the walls fall down.
Wouldn’t that be something; to be able to see the barriers to Jesus in the hearts of these people fall like rubble as they embrace Him and follow Him with all their hearts. We may not get to see it ourselves, but we pray in faith that one day it will happen and these wonderful people will experience the joy and peace of our Lord. -- Bobby
