Austin has always loved helping me in the kitchen. He loves making messes and one-on-one time with mommy. Usually I only have enough patience to have him stir up a pitcher of lemonade or a bowl of instant pudding and then send him out to play. Sad, but true.
Recently, I asked him to help me cook dinner. He was amazing! He peeled and chopped garlic, peeled and sliced cucumbers for the salad, separated the spagetti squash and added the spices and serveral other jobs I gave him. I can't tell you how impressed I was with his patience and I was amazed with how much he loved it.
It also helped him with his picky-ness. He could see what went into things that we eat. He asked questions the whole time we were cooking and said, "Oh, so that's how you make that!" or "So that's what goes into that." If I would let him help more often, I think it would help him to be more brave with different foods.
Now mommy just needs to be brave . . . and let him in the kitchen more often. : )
